Bald Head Coffee & Tea House

One morning a few years ago the lovely and talented Lisa was sniffing around our kitchen saying “What smells so good?” After little bit she realized it was the bag of coffee I’d picked up from our new advertisers, Bald Head Coffee. We’ve been loyal customers ever since. Every Monday morning in the spring and summer I’m at the Oak Island Farmers Market picking up my bag of whole bean Highlander Grog coffee and chatting with Bald Head Coffee owners Steve and Pam Lewis.

When we interviewed them for an article a couple years ago, Steve mentioned his goal of finding a spot to open a coffee shop. Well, his dream has become a reality with the opening of Bald Head Coffee & Tea House at 3481 George II Highway in Boiling Spring Lakes. We spoke to Steve and Pam about their new venture and what it will offer the community.

For anyone who isn’t familiar, please give us an idea who Bald Head Coffee is and how long you’ve been in business.

Bald Head Coffee started in 2020, however Steve has been in the coffee business for over 40 years. He opened a coffee shop in Atlanta in the 80s and also worked for Melita Coffee, and Starbucks as a trainer. Bald Head is a locally owned business that strives to create a beverage experience for our customers.

Has a coffee house always been in your plans?

Our new Bald Head Coffee & Tea House evolved as the business evolved. We started as an online business, shipping coffee around the country, then we began Farmers Markets and created a loyal local following. Then in the spring of 2022 we began the search for where we would be able to open a Coffee house. Happily, we found this BSL location and we are thrilled to be open for business!

What all do you offer in the coffee house?

We offer over 50 varieties of drinks from Coffee-based, Espresso-based, Teas, Hot Chocolate, Energy drinks, Frappes, Smoothies, Cold Brew and Nitro Cold Brew, Matcha, Pour-overs, French Press, Flights, and Boxes of Coffee to go.

The food offered varies from yogurt parfaits, croissants, breakfast croissants, bagels, breakfast burritos, scones, cookies, salads, sandwiches, desserts, and gelato from Italy!

What was the biggest challenge in opening your new spot?

Our biggest challenge opening our new coffee house was in the building process. We understand that this is normally a challenge for anyone building out, so we worked through the process and are very happy with how it has all turned out.

Now that you are open, what do you enjoy most about having your own coffee house featuring your products?

The best part of our coffee house is meeting and greeting the people that come to visit. It is a joy to see friends sitting and chatting over coffee, having people working on their lap tops over a latte in a mug, and treating drive through customers to our friendly faces and delicious drinks.

What do you like about being located in a growing Boiling Spring Lakes community?

We have received a warm welcome and the neighbors we share have been kind and excited to see us. We have donated some of our lunch products to the police staff and also to the food pantry. We hope to be able to be a big part of this community as we grow.

Please feel free to let us know anything else you’d like to share

We will periodically have music on the dog-friendly patio, as well as several special events coming up: our ribbon cutting sponsored by the chamber of commerce will be held Tuesday, Nov 14 at 2 pm. We will also be hosting Santa and Mrs. Claus on Saturday, Dec 2 from 12-2 pm.

I’ll put. Box at the end of this with the address and hours, so let me know the hours again just to be sure I get it correct

Our hours are: Monday - Saturday 5:30 AM- 6:00 PM and Sunday 7:00 AM- 3:00 PM
